Dolores R. Gill, 82, of Spring Valley, died Thursday, June 9, 2005, at the Spring Valley Care Center.
She was born Dec. 17, 1922, in rural Spring Valley, the daughter of Edward and Wanda (Engelhart) Brandt. She was raised in the Spring Valley area and attended rural school. She worked on the family farm until her marriage to Arnold Hyland Oct. 19, 1941, in St. Paul.
The couple made their home on various Army bases during World War II, moving to Spring Valley in 1945, where they owned and operated Hyland Motor Company.
In 1953, they started selling Ford and New Holland farm equipment. She was bookkeeper for the business until her retirement in 1973. He died in August 1970.
She married Gordon Gill in March 1973 and the couple made their home in Spring Valley and Florida. He died in August 2004. She had been a resident of Spring Valley Senior Living since 2002.
She was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Spring Valley and was a former member of Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the Spring Valley American Legion Auxiliary, Friends of Forestville, was a lifetime member of the Fillmore County Historical Society and was a former member of the Midway Homemakers Club. She was a quilter, and enjoyed sewing crafts and fishing.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold Hyland of Redding, Calif., and Duane (Annette) Hyland of Spring Valley; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (Carroll) Henderson of Spring Valley; two stepsons, Leslie (Deanne) Gill of Rochester and Michael (Annette) Gill of LaCrosse; two stepdaughters, Sharon (Richard) Jahn of Spring Valley and Kathleen (Dwayne) Buchholz of Brooklyn Park, Minn; 11 stepgrandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Betty Brandt of Grand Meadow.
She was preceded in death by a granddaughter and two brothers.
The funeral was Monday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with the Rev. Laura Fladten officiating. Burial will be in the Dr. Martin Luther Lutheran Cemetery in rural Spring Valley. on June 15, 2005.
