Hi Lane,
I was surprised and delighted that you responded to my latest e-mail. When I hadn't received an answer to my earlier inquireries I assumed that I'd hit another dead end and that the one I was contacting (you) either had ceased working on their
lineage altogether and wasn't interested in starting it up again or they'd passed away and couldn't respond.
Glad to hear you're alive and well. I grew up in NE Iowa, around Waterloo/Cedar Falls. My mom along with my only brother and one sister still live in the area. I also have a nephew and his family that live in Chaska, MN. My dad's youngest sister,
Esther Newman, and her family only recently left the Minneapolis/St. Paul a few years ago. My Uncle John used to have a veterinary practice there as well as teach at the U of MN. Both have retired and have moved to the suburbs of Atlanta now.
Still see my Aunt occasionally, but unfortunately she doesn't know much about either side of her family (King-Nitcher). Says she's never been interested in family history, so never been curious as to who her ancestors were.
Depending on whether you'd like to discover some more history about the Kings, you might want to check out a little place called Dexter. It's in Mower Co. That's where my grandparents lived for quite a few years. Louis Frederick also ran a
store/post office from his home, called Manilla, MN. Louis and Amanda are buried in the "family" cemetery--High Forest Cemetery--in High Forest, Olmsted Co., MN. My grandparents, Samuel and Martha, are also buried there as well as a sister of
mine--unmarked grave. We hope to make a trip up to the cemetery this summer while in Iowa at a family reunion on my mom's side (Fails-Struckman). The last time I visited the cemetery was as a teenager, so will have to rely on my mom to find the
place. Louis's parents: Samuel Edward and Caroline ? King are buried in Dexter, MN. but not sure if they are in the same cemetery or not. Not sure how close High Forest and Dexter are but I always associated one with the other.
I have pictures of Louis F. and his siblings and others that I will gladly share. Along with any further information. I've been working on the history since about 1980. Until then had never thought about delving into the past. My mom had sent me a
hard backed book with family history pages to be filled in. Since I knew next to nothing about my family I decided just to start with my dad's generation and come forward. Wrote my aunt, Florence, the older of my dad's two sister's for information on
her family and what I received started me on my search. She sent me a large manilla envelope crammed with bits and pieces of paper information. Most was hand written, some typed. All had been collected by those in my grandmother's
generation. Took me about 6 months to sort through the paper work and get the lineage right. There was information for both the Kings and Nitcher's, so it was quite a task. I didn't add the pictures until my mom came to live with us in 1984. I
became curious as to what some of my relatives looked like and she presented me with a slew of pictures. I've always been told I was named after a grandmother, but was never sure who. Now I have a pretty good idea.
Thank you for the pictures you sent. They will be treasured as all of my photos are. Growing up I never new many of the Kings, just my grandmother, Martha, and my dad's siblings. Even my Aunt Esther, the youngest of my dad's siblings, can't tell
me much about the Kings.
My one link to other possible lines of the King I have a feeling is no longer with us. She was my great Aunt Ann ? King. She was married to Louis Earl, the son of John Louis King, who was a brother to our Louis Frederick. I do know that there are
quite a few Kings in Washington state as some of Louis F's siblings moved there at one point. Louis F. is the oldest of 7 children: 6 boys and 1 girl born to Samuel and Caroline King. I have names, some dates and places. Will forward the pictures
later. My history covers 10 generations: my grandkids being the most recent.
Yep I'm a granny. I'm 48, been married 28 years to my husband, John and we have 4 kids. Two boys and two girls. Our oldest, Joe is 27 and in the Army, currently stationed in the mid-East. His wife, Shannon, and two kids, Hunter & Caity, are in El
Paso where Joe is normally based. Our youngest boy, Jim, 24 and oldest girl Stacy, 20 still live in Ga. Jim and his wife, Kasi, are expecting their 1st baby in Feb. Stacy is divorced and has a little boy, Cody. Our youngest girl, Tyler who's 6, is the
only one still at home. We just moved from SE Ga. to Panama City, Florida this past Sept. and don't like it one bit, but will make the best of it just the same. But even though I grew up in NE Iowa, I'll let you snow bunnies have all the fun with that
white stuff. Didn't much care for it as a kid, I sure don't relish the thought of having to deal with it now that I'm an adult. Will send the pictures your way possibly tomorrow. Working 12 hr. shifts so not much time in the evenings to do much.
Will write again when I can.
Nancy.
