Lila Ellenberg, 100, Spring Valley, dies

SPRING VALLEY -- Lila Ellenberg, 100, of Spring Valley, a lifelong area resident and former farm homemaker, died Wednesday (Nov. 17, 1993) at Community Memorial Hospital in Spring Valley.

Lila Utzinger was born Feb. 16, 1893, in rural Racine and graduated from Grand Meadow High School in 1912. On June 23, 1915, she married Henry Ellenberg at her parent's home in rural Racine and they farmed in the Spring Valley area. Her husband died in March 1962. Mrs. Ellenberg had resided at the Community Memorial Nursing Home in Spring Valley since November 1992. She was a member of Racine Evangelical and Sumner Center United Methodist churches and had been involved in many church activities over the years.

Survivors include a son, Earl of Lake City; three daughters, Beulah Anderson of Chatfield, Phyllis Popp of Hutchinson, Minn., an Elaine Webb of Spring Valley; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Four brothers preceded her in death.

The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Sumner Center United Methodist Church in rural Spring Valley, with the Rev. Jean Dumas officiating. Burial will be in Sumner (Millet) Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Osland Funeral Home in Spring Valley and an hour before the service Saturday at the church.
