Ivan DuMez Snyder -- Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY -- Services for Ivan DuMez Snyder will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sumner Center United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Victoria Ashley officiating.

Mr. Snyder, 77, of Sumner Center Township, Fillmore County, a longtime area farmer, died Thursday (Aug. 9, 2001) at his home.

He was born May 6, 1924, in Spring Valley, grew up in the Spring Valley-Ostrander area, and farmed in the area all his life. On Sept. 25, 1946, he married Margie Ihns at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lime Springs, Iowa. He had been active in the Bennington 4-H Club, was a member of Sumner Center United Methodist Church where he served on the finance, pastor-parish and trustees committees, was a charter member of the Minnesota Donkey and Mule Association, and was a member of the Pleasant Grove Saddle Club, Friends of Forestville, Spring Valley Historical Society, Millet Cemetery Association and Sumner Center Farmers Club. His interests included horses, mules and donkeys, hunting, fishing, woodworking, nature and conservation.

Survivor include his wife; two sons, Anthony (June) of Lyndon Station, Wis., and Joel (Darla) of St. Joseph, Mo; two daughters, Becky (Jim) Herson of Sidney, Mont., and Emilie (Robert) Durand of McAlester, Okla; four grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Donald (Mary) of Pequot Lakes, Minn; and a sister, Sue (Gerald) Jensen of Mahtomedi, Minn. A brother preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley. He was born on May 6, 1924 at Spring Valley, Fillmore County, Minnesota, United States of America. He was the son of Benjamin F. SNYDER and Dorothy DUMEZ. Ivan DuMez SNYDER married Margie Beth IHNS, daughter of Walter IHNS and Emma AUSTIN, on September 25, 1946 at Saint Paul's Lutheran, Lime Springs, Iowa, United States of America.
