Chatfield man dies in accident

STEWARTVILLE -- A 28-year-old Chatfield man was killed early this morning in a one-vehicle accident east of Stewartville.

Dale Carl Sackett was dead at the scene, said the Minnesota State Patrol.

Sackett was westbound on Minnesota 30 when his vehicle went into the right ditch, hit an embankment and rolled over several times, a patrol spokeswoman said.

Sackett was thrown from the vehicle and the vehicle burned after coming to a stop. The victim was not burned, the spokeswoman said.

The accident remains under investigation. It was reported at 5:25 a.m. He was born on November 10, 1962. He was the son of Leonard Clifford SACKETT and Ethel MITCHELL.

Layton Sackett, St. Charles, dies at 89

ST. CHARLES -- Layton Sackett, 89, of St. Charles, died Friday (Aug. 21, 1992) at Olmsted Community Hospital in Rochester after a lengthy illness.

Born Aug. 1, 1903, in Saratoga Township, Winona County, he married Catherine Palmby here on April 14, 1931.

The couple farmed in the St. Charles and Chatfield areas until moving to St. Charles in 1935. From 1935 until 1969, Mr. Sackett worked with Cooperative Oil Co. of Rochester, which is now Greenway Co-Op.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, James of Yorba Linda, Calif., Kenneth of Arlington Heights, Ill., and Keith of St. Charles; a daughter, Kathleen (Mrs. Ben) Ellsworth of Rochester; 11 grandchildren, one greatgrandchild, and a brother, Leonard of Chatfield. He is preceded in death by three sisters.

A mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Louis Cook officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in St. Charles.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles. A rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Sunday and a prayer service will be conducted at 7:30 at the funeral home. He married Catherine PALMBY. Layton Carlton SACKETT was born on August 1, 1903. He was the son of Raymond Robert SACKETT and Emma Pauline LAMBRECHT.

Leonard C. Sackett, 84, Chatfield, dies

CHATFIELD -- Leonard C. Sackett, 84, of rural Chatfield died Sunday (Oct. 3, 1993) at the Whitewater Manor Nursing Home in St. Charles, where he had live since May 14.

Mr. Sackett had been ill since 1989.

Born Aug. 2, 1909, in Saratoga Township (rural St. Charles), Mr. Sackett lived there until he moved to the Sackett farm in rural Chatfield in 1925. He lived there for the past 68 years and is the third generation of Sacketts to live on the farm. On Sept. 30, 1946, he married Ethel Mitchell in Preston.

Survivors include his wife Ethel, two sons and three daughers: Allan Sackett of Fountain; Clifford Sackett of Preston; Janet Sackett of Rochester; Beverly Sackett of Chatfield; and Rita Sackett of Palestine, Texas. He had four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death one son, one brother and three sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield. The Rev. Kenneth Rogers of the United Methodist Church in Chatfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Chatfield Cemetery

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Riley Funeral Home at from 8 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born on August 2, 1909 at Saint Charles, Winona County, Minnesota, United States of America. He was the son of Raymond Robert SACKETT and Emma Pauline LAMBRECHT. Leonard Clifford SACKETT married Ethel MITCHELL, daughter of Almon Haskell MITCHELL and Edna May YOUNGS, on September 30, 1946.

     Lester E. SACKETT was born in July, 1893 at South Dakota, United States of America. He was the son of Robert Nathaniel SACKETT and Annetta Eva HOPKINS.

     Lila May SACKETT is the daughter of Raymond Robert SACKETT and Emma Pauline LAMBRECHT. Lila May SACKETT married Elmer Rey BURLISON, son of Amos Eugene BURLISON, on August 18, 1927.
