THOMAS GREEN
Thomas Green, 92, was born on March 8, 1841, in Derbyshire, England, and with his parents came to America on July 2, 1851, the family settling on Albion Prairie. Later they moved to Dayton, Green Co., Wisconsin, where Mr. Green, with his father Joseph Green, engaged in the milking business.
When Mr. Green was 20 years of age, he enlisted on August, 8, 1861, at Belleville, Dane Co., Wisconsin Regiment, for military service in the Union Army in the Civil War. This regiment was popularly known as the Live Eagle Regiment of which Old Abe, the eagle was the mascot.
Mr. Green served his country for four years and one month and was attached to the U.S. Army west of the Missippi river. The most important battle which he particiated was the siege of Vicksburg. He was honorably discharged from the army a Demopolis, Alabama, on September 5, 1865, after which he returned to his home at Dayton, where on Septemeber 17, 1866, he was married to Miss Isabelle Beattie.
In 1884, Mr. and Mrs. Green moved to Albion Prairie, where Mr. Green engaged in farming, an occupation which held his attention for 16 years.
Mr. Green passed away at his home on Albion Prairie, on Thuesday, November 9th, 1933, at eight o'clock a.m. after a short illness of three days.
Surviving relatives are one daughter, Mrs. George Hall, Albion Prairie, one son Charles Green, Beloit; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, two brothers, Richard, Los Angeles, Calif., and Herbert, Topeka, Kansas. Mrs. Green and two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Marsden and Mrs. Ida Dickinson preceeded him in death.
Funeral Services were held on Sunday afternoon at the home at two o'clock, where a large concourse of friends and neighbors had come to pay their respect to a great friend and neighbor.
The services were conducted by Rev. W.J. Williams, Pastor of the P.M. church, Albion Prairie and the Masonic Fraternity and the American Legion conducted the services at the grave. The remains were laid to rest in the Albion Prairie cemetery.
Gently he was laid away beside the remains of his beloved wife, who departed 14 years ago, there to await the Ressurection Morn, when all shall come forth. He was Funeral on November 12, 1933 at Albion Prairie, Dane County, Wisconsin, United States of America.
