Helen Gilmore Brown, 92, Topeka, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at a Topeka nursing home.

She was born Feb. 5, 1908, in Cheyenne, Wyo., the daughter of James and Gertrude Ellis Gilmore. She attended Stephens College and graduated from the University of Missouri in Springfield, Mo. She taught school for a year. She had lived in Carmel, Calif., for many years, and then in Pine Bluff, Ark., for 25 years before she moved to Topeka in 1992.

Mrs. Brown was a member of Delta Delta Delta, Daughters of the American Revolution, Dames of 1812, The French Huguenots and Grace Episcopal Cathedral. She also was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Pine Bluff, Ark.

She was married to Ed C. Brown, who died in 1965. A daughter, Edwina Brown Pipe, died June 4, 1998.

Survivors include a granddaughter, Samantha Cook, Olathe; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Cathedral. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Cathedral, 701 S.W. 8th, Topeka, 66603.

I believe that the date recorded closer to the event is more likely to be accurate (January 4, 1862). He was the son of Henry Hubbard GILMORE and Sarah Dearborn TODD. James Mitchell GILMORE married Gertrude E. ELLIS, daughter of Henry H. ELLIS and Adelaide L. HOLLISTER, on November 15, 1892 at Cheyenne, Laramie County, Wyoming, United States of America; Based on number of years married in James and Gertude's 1900 census records being listed as seven and 17 in the 1910 census. James Mitchell GILMORE died on June 14, 1946 at Long Beach, Los Angeles County, California, United States of America, at age 84.
