Another Old Settler Passed Away

A dispatch from Cheyenne, Wyo., to Fred Ellis of this city Friday last, conveyed the sad intelligence of the death of his brother, Henry H. Ellis. This gentleman was one of the pioneer settlers of Rock county and for many years made Janesville his home where he was in business. On account of failing health, he went west hoping to find improvement, but without success.

Mr. Ellis is of English descent, and came with his parents to this country in his infancy. He leaves a wife, son and daughter of Cheyenne, besides a sister, Mrs. Mary Jordan of this city, two brothers, Thomas of Jefferson, Ia., and Fred of this city.

Based on a birth year of 1742, John would most likely have been at least 21 years old when he married, placing his marriage year about 1763 or later.
