William Cramer of Chatfield dies at 86

CHATFIELD -- William F. Cramer, 86, of Chatfield, retired owner of Cramer Welding and Service Station, died today (March 28, 1994) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester where he had been a patient since March 19.

He was born March 8, 1908, in Durand, Wis. A certified welder, he received his training in the California and Milwaukee shipyards. In 1936, he married Evelyn Pogatchnik in Randall, Minn. They moved to Chatfield in 1945 when he established Cramer Welding and Service Station. A car wash was added to the business in 1967, and he operated it for 25 years. Mr. Cramer was a member of the Chatfield Commercial Club.

Survivors include four sons, John ``Merlin'' of Chatfield, Donald of Winona, Edwin of Denver and Robert of Eugene, Ore; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rosella Johnson of Little Falls, Minn. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1978, a grandson, four brothers and a sister.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Chatfield, with the Rev. Joseph McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Chatfield.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield where there will be a prayer service at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. He was born at Duran. He was the son of Franklin CRAMER. William Franklin CRAMER married Evelyn POGATCHNIK, daughter of August POGATCHNIK and Bertha *UNKNOWN.
