Lyle Buchholtz, 86, of Stewartville

SPRING VALLEY, Minnesota (STPNS) -- Lyle Buchholtz, 86, of Stewartville, died Monday, May 26, 2008 at the Stewartville Care Center where he had resided since Dec. 2003.

He was born Sept. 38 1921, in Fillmore County, and grew up in the family farm in Sumner Township. He attended rural schools and the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul. In the early '40s he contracted polio. Following his recovery he attended Rochester Junior College to prepare for a change in careers.

On June 21, 1953, he married Phyllis Holman at Sumner Center United Methodist Church. The couple moved to Stewartville where he was employed by Brown Electric as bookkeeper and office manager until his retirement. His wife was a switchboard operator at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.



He was a longtime member of Sumner Center United Methodist Church and a 60-year member of the Pleasant Grove Masonic Lodge, serving as its secretary for more than 20 years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, the outdoors, playing cards, and watching sports, especially the Twins and Vikings.

Survivors include a sister, Donna (Marion) Gill of Perham, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his wife on July 5, 2003, four brothers and a sister.

The funeral was held Friday, May 30, at the Sumner Center United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob Kopp officiating. Burial was in Sumner Millet Cemetery in Sumner Township, Fillmore County.

Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville was in charge of arrangements.
